Belgian intimist painter and draftsman, Jan Hoogsteyns (1935), is best known for his dreamlike and foggy work using gray and greyed down poetic colors and tonalities. With mist-grey, wintery sky blue and sand-colored beige, he evokes in a style all his own, an atmosphere of intimacy, poetry and melancholy. Hoogsteyns’s common themes are sitting women, landscapes of houses and trees, seascapes and still-life of fruit-dishes or common objects which tend to float symbolizing the whole range of domestic life.
Hoogsteyns has had individual exhibitions all across Europe including Belgium, England, Holland, Germany and France. He was awarded several prizes and selections and took part in many group-exhibitions all over Europe and the USA.
