Contemporary Design
The TOSA light object was created in 2011 as a collaboration between designer Heike Buchfelder and media and sound artist Jan-Peter E.R. Sonntag. The expansive steel structure, formed over the electrical cable’s free-flowing lines, curves upwards to hold the luminous feather ball. TOSA is a one-of-a-kind piece designed and crafted specifically for each particular space. TOSA is entirely handmade.
Since time immemorial, feathers have been a symbol of lightness and limitlessness. By nature, feathers are exceptionally dirt-resistant and durable. Under the right conditions, they can last for centuries—as demonstrated by traditional feather ornaments crafted by native peoples of the Americas and still admired in museums to this day.
