19th Century French Louis Philippe Giltwood Wall Mirror With Crest

Crafted from gilt wood and gesso, this 19th century mirror features the original mercury glass whose desirable loss of silver lends an authentic and timeworn patina. The back reveals the original wood backing, and if you look closely enough, a name has been lightly written in pencil. Perhaps the name of the original owner?

This gorgeous mirror features finely etched decorations around the perimeter, with graceful flowing leaf and floral motifs, and a traditional Napoleonic beaded detail lining the inside perimeter. The top is accentuated with a crest featuring stylized acanthus leaves and an elegantly draped floral garland.
