Additional Information :
Charles Catteau was an incredibly influential designer of pottery of the early 20th century. After training at the Manufacture Nationale in Sevres he was employed by Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur in Nymphenburg before joining Boch Freres in 1906 and establishing his Atelier de Fantaise in 1907. His philosophy of “Art for All” led to his designs being more akin to artisanal pieces rather than the factory produced wares that they are. Like his contemporary Rene Lalique. who similarly revolutionised factory produced glass designs. Catteau was exhibited at the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris and adopted Art Deco designs of which this is a classic example.
