Beautiful large sized but sophisticated sideboard from the componivel series designed by Jorge Zalszupin and manufactured by his own company L’Atelier, Brazil 1959. Modular furniture by Jorge is instantly recognizable, as he was the first one to come up with such a constructivist way of creating furniture. From the start of L’Atelier, large numbers of variations were created, but were made with the same principles and distinctive features. Each cabinet, regardless its size, had a number of patchwork Jacaranda rosewood veneered cabinets that were secured onto a bottom and top plate, and thus seem to be wedged in which gave a very minimalist feel. Most sideboards were made in patchwork veneer such as this one, which gives the piece a very sculptural, artistic feel. Hinges are recessed into the cabinet doors, and the signature handles were drilled out, and veneered. This specific sideboard has solid square wooden feet. This sideboard is fully refinished, but we kept the original look and patina is still visible. There is plenty of storage behind the 4 wooden folding doors and the middle features a nice open showcase part. The sideboard is finished all around and can be placed in the middle to use as a room divider as well.
