Louis XVI Style French Chandelier in the style of Maison Baguès

Excellent eight-flame chandelier made in late 19th c. in France, Paris, attr. Maison Baguès: from a central bar of gilded bronze decorated with a baluster enfilade of crystal glass, eight chandelier arms of gilded bronze swing out in an s-shape with cord relief, supporting the goblet-shaped candle spouts with leaf relief and correspondingly decorated wax plates. Accenting the center of the candelabra is a multiple indented bronze ring with crystal glass olive trim. Crystal glass chains extend from the arms to this ring and others from there to the top of the chandelier. Topped by penduloque cantilevers in two rows, concluding bell with acanthus leaf relief. Exceptionally rich faceted crystal glass hanging, partially amethyst colored. Lower finish by large solid crystal glass sphere. Due to its shape, the use of the characteristic intermediate ring and the excellent quality of workmanship, its origin in the famous Parisian manufactory Maison Baguès can be assumed. Maison Baguès was founded in 1860 by the artisan blacksmith Noel Baguès, who initially specialized in the manufacture of liturgical utensils. By about 1880, however, with the advent of electricity, the company had expanded its product line to include bronze chandeliers and remains one of the most prominent French manufactories of luxury lighting fixtures. The manufactory was successfully continued and expanded by Noel’s sons Eugène and his grandsons Victor and Robert. With its elaborate sconces and handmade crystal chandeliers, it attracted an elite clientele and also became a supplier to luxury hotels such as the George V in Paris and the Savoy in London.
